FORMER world middleweight boxing champion Darren Barker will visit Salisbury this weekend to officially open Stonehenge CrossFit in Harnham.

Barker, who won the IBF title with a thrilling victory over Australia's Daniel Geale in Atlantic City in 2013, retired through injury later in the year after a stellar career in which he secured British, Commonwealth and European titles.

He was also a tremendous amateur, striking gold in the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

Stonehenge CrossFit officially opened its doors in February and has already built a fantastic reputation.

The open day, on Saturday, May 9, will run from 10am until 4pm and everyone is welcome.

There will be workouts, a bouncy castle, fitness challenges and stalls selling clothing and nutritional supplements.

"We are delighted that Darren will be on hand to meet and greet our members and those who want to stop by", said Stonehenge CrossFit co-owner Tris Dixon.

"Darren has an incredible story to tell having won a world championship in memory of his brother, who was killed in a car crash. He's also a really nice guy who represented his sport with dignity around the world.

Dixon, the former editor or Boxing News, is now a pundit on Sky Sports and wrote Ricky Hatton's autobiography, War and Peace, with the Manchester 'Hitman.'

Barker is the second world champion to visit the facility after former heavyweight world champion David Haye came in March.
